Hey guys, apologies if this has been beaten to death, but the info seems to vary between models quite a bit. I've got a turbo'd 525i that I'm looking to throw an LSD into. I've got the option of getting a med-case 3.15 or a med-case 3.23. I'd prefer the 3.15, which should be out of an 530i Auto, but I'm not sure if the input flanges will match up.

It looks like the output flanges should match up just fine, but I don't want to get this thing shipped to me without confirming with someone else that's done it. Worse comes to worst, I can just get the 3.23 (which I already have the open version of).

Input and output flanges can be swapped across all 188mm BMW diffs. The output flanges require nothing but a prybar. The input flange needs a few more tools, including a 36mm socket and a torque wrench that goes to 137ft-lb, but is doable at home.

FWIW, i dont believe the 530i auto diff ever came with a LSD carrier. Also, the difference between the 3.23 and 3.15 will be negligible in feel. Go for the easy one to get that you are sure has a LSD carrier in it.

Yes, I think you're right actually. I looked into it more and it looks like this 3.15 has the proper E34 med-case but internals from a 3.15 LSD, whether it be from an E36 M3 or a Z3.
