I need to remove the water pump on my E36. I've fabbed up a 32mm wrench tool at work for the fan, only to realise it's useless without the other tool that bites onto the pulley bolt heads.

Again, this is something I can make at work. I can eyeball it for the most, but it sure would be nice to know the approximate hole sizes I need to drill, and the gap between the holes center to center, bolt pattern etc. My car is parked up in my folks garage and I didn't think to do any measuring at the time :/

That tool is not really needed. Some use a long screw driver to put diagonal across two screw heads. Also possible you leave the belt on and use use a mallet to whack the wrench, you may have to repeat a few times. Also remember that it is a left hand thread (righty - loosey) in this case. You can also spray a bit of thread penetrant before starting.

Also a pro tip (lol), if the pump does not want to birth itself out of the car, you will notice two threads on the sides of the pump. You can put a bolt in the two unused threads and it will allow you to walk the pump off the engine. You go little by little and the pump will walk its way off the engine.

Unless you can harden the metal, making one of the BMW type tools is not worth it.

Get one of these. It works on everything.

You beauty :) Thanks mate.

Made it at work today and it worked a treat. Old water pump is off, new water pump is on.
