I’m getting a automatic bmw e36 m3. I know I should get a manual but I plan on converting the car to manual when I lace the money. I was wondering what the 2,3 and 4 mean.

The auto in the M3 isn't as bad as the non-Ms IMO. The numbers are the gear selector for the 5 speed auto trans. For example, the 2 will go from 1st to 2nd only. I only used it for driving in the mountains. Then I converted to a 6 speed manual.

Gotta put it in the m mode with selector to use these. If your in m (manual) mode you will not switch through 1,2 and the transmission will launch in second. If you go to s (sport) mode it will use 1,2 then stop until you push to 3. Do not downshift while your on the gas you can shift up on the gas though
