I was wondering if someone can tell me how hard it is to find a 2003 540iT Wagon. I have looked pretty much everywhere are dont seem to be able to locate one.

My advice - stop obsessing over the "MUST BE A 2003 M!!!!!!" like every other moro-n00ber who's new to the E39 game...

That dooshbag that had the "2003 E39 M-SPORT IS AN INCREDIBLE RARE MASSIVE PERFORMANCE CAR!!!!" webpage years ago, and then the ridiculously stupid "2003 M-Sports are 95% of an M5!!!!!" blogger farticles, have collectively done a disservice to E39 buyers.

Bunch of the M package stuff will be the same as a pre-2003 non-M sport car. Seats. Steering wheel. This is even more true if you are looking at a Touring as we will see.

Suspension is one of the big 'hard parts content' of the M-sport. OK... But for a Tour - the rear suspensh is still same SLS setup as the non-2003M sports.
And, most of the time at this point you are due for suspension replacement anyway so the factory M-sport suspension is of questionable value. Reasonably priced aftermarket stuff (say HR or Dinan springs and Koni dampers...) is gonna be a well better setup than the "OK upgrade but not shockingly great" M-sport.

540 Touring already gets the low-ratio diff. No M-sport value there.

2003MTour doesn't get the staggered tires anyway. So you get M-pars - mmm OK - but not staggered.

Boiling down the "what do you really get" on a 2003MTour to:
- Some minor interior bits. Black headliner. M-footrest. M-sills. OK. Cool. But... worth how much? All retrofittable.
- M-bumpers. Probably the most valuable bit. Also be replicated on a non-2003M... but still. Yeah OK.

I mean hell if you FIND one at a good price, hell great go for it.. but a buncha sellers equally deluded into thinking they have rare AMG wagons or something, and those cars are usually massively overpriced for the actual unique content level (low).

The 03 "M-sport" 540iT didn't even get 18" wheels...they got 17" wheels. :)

Plus...the e39 Tourings are hard to find because not that many were imported...especially the V8s. If you're looking specifically for a 2003 540iT...then the pickings get even slimmer...if all were still running...you'd be looking for 1 of 261 examples:

:cry:cry ...and even worse...the 525i/iT's "sport pkg" has the least amount of goodies taken from the M-parts bin. The 525i/iT sport pkg didn't even get everything the other model sport pkgs got on the 530i/540i/iT models (like no shadowline trim, no sport seats & sport steering wheel in some model years, and not even four M wheels...you got the DAISY wheels (style 81):
