I recently purchased a '98 M3 which came with OEM locking lugbolts. The two lugbolt keys that came with the vehicle are unavailable and my local dealership wished me good luck in getting them replaced. I'm going to remove and dispose of the locking lug bolts since I live in an area of almost no crime. The problem, of course, is getting them removed. Can anyone recommend a locking lugnut removal tool, twist design or otherwise, that will properly remove these locking lug bolts without damaging the rim.

Thanks,

Hans

Are you sure you're not trying to help yourself to a set of rims? JK

I would recommend you keep the locks on, even if you live in a low-crime area. But, you would still need to eventually get the locks off. Why is the key not available?

you can't just get new ones, otherwise theifs would have a set of them to open any lock when they wanted. there is only one way to get them off, and that is to break them off. you need to find a socket the fits kinda snug into the lug nut, then like i said above, break it off. torque wrench till it breaks, or impact gun until it comes off. either way you MAY BREAK YOUR RIMS!!! again i will give you this warning, BREAKING LUG NUTS OFF MAY CAUSE MAJOR DAMAGE TO YOUR RIMS.

That's the way I had to get my lug nuts locks off once. I had to break them off, I was scared to death, cuz i had a shop do it for me, and they made me sign a waiver that released them of liabilty if something went wrong. i went to discount tire, showed them my registration, and once they verified I was the owner of the car, they had a form for me to sign and they went at it. Good luck

Kinda makes you feel good, that's the only way to get them off. But I'm no theif so I'm sure there is an easier and safer way

Why couldn't you just use a drill to drill the head off, then the rest would probably back out by hand after you get the wheel off?

I don't know exactly what locking lugs you have, but this should work for almost anything.

If you can get something into the lock (hammer it in place), and then use a regular socket wrench on that, it might work. Since the lock is probably inverted--round outside, key pattern on the inside--it will be hard to find that "something" to put in there. Hammering a socket onto the lock works good if it's the other kind of lock.

Oh, and it makes a lot of noise, so don't do it at night while wearing dark clothes.

I have heard some people drill a hole in the middle of the lug nut and then they just use some tool that fits the hole to unscrew it.
