Hi all,
This is my first post, so if this is the incorrect area, please point me in the right direction.
I bought a project 1999 535iA (M62tuB35) to learn how to complete the timing chain guides which I have completed. However, once completed it didn't feel like it had any power up top end. So I stripped it down again and checked the timing and it was all fine, I believe I didn't tighten the bolts correctly on the bank 2 upper timing case causing back pressure. So after stripping it all down again and re torquing all bolts back to spec the issue i now have is engine will crank but not start.
As i turn the key, the engine will crank over and will not stop cranking until I turn the key to the off position (as in if ACC is pos1, ON is pos2 and START is pos3, i turn key to pos3 to start the engine, then the key goes to pos2 automatically and will keep cranking until i turn key to off position).
I have tried the following:
- Checked all fuses (DME, glovebox, boot) all OK
- Checked for fuel, when disconnecting fuel line, fresh fuel came out
- Checked for spark, came back strong
- Checked camshaft sensors (I also have a 2000 540i) by swapping them over from my running 540i, no change
- Checked resistance on the crankshaft sensor, which is identical to my 540i
- Pulled spark plugs out and they were wet with fuel, so i disconnected fuel pump and cleaned out all cylinders and tried a refire, but same issue)
If anyone can think of anything else I have missed, it would be greatly aprreciated as it seems online that there are many things that a crank, but not start may be.
