Hello, I'm hopping on the forums in hopes some of you maybe able to help diagnose my issue.

I am going through my 98 E36 M3 and replaced the clutch assembly, flywheel, transmission seals, detent pins, clutch fork assembly, slave cylinder, guibo, etc. I reinstalled the transmission and went to start it and it struggled to stay idle and shut off. The symptoms almost felt like it was fuel related as it was stumbling. I noticed that it would stay idle the longest when I depressed the clutch. As soon as I would lift the clutch pedal, the car would shut off.

It seems as though it's related to an engagement issue with either the slave cylinder, clutch fork assembly, throw out bearing, pressure plate and clutch. Do any of you have recommendations of how you would troubleshoot this with the last resort leading to removal of the transmission again? Prior to installation, I double checked the clutch was installed correctly mating motor and gearbox to their correct sides. I'm using a sachs clutch kit with a luk dual mass flywheel. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If it ran fine before the work then you need to go back and recheck your work

Vacuum line? Should be 1-2 vacuum lines in that area - EVAP canister and fuel pressure regulator. At least the E46 does.

This.

When you had the transmission off you would have tilted the engine. That means either disconnecting the intake or straining the connections if not. You likely have a vacuum leak somewhere in the intake tract. Could be a loose joint, a cracked intake elbow (they're notorious for that), one of those little vacuum hose out of place, the idle valve not seating properly in its rubber gasket — something like that.
