I have a 98 323i Convertible I just started restoring and someone cut off my muffler while out, but just the muffler, I had no idea this was a thing but security had a code for it, well I'm finding it very hard to find a replacement muffler that isn't essentially a fart cannon, I did however come across this on eBay and my question is would this work on mine? It states 4cyl but idk if thats accurate or if it would even matter either way, any help, advice or links would be greatly appreciated

e36 4cyl motors have just one exhaust pipe, 6cyl have 2. you need to get one for the 6cyl

Very possible. My understanding was that the 320i en 323i have an exhaust with only 1 pipe coming from the cat

It should work. Make sure they didnt cut the mounting flange off on the other side though

The 323is in particular have a different setup than normal on the downpipe, not sure about the exhaust. I helped my buddy score one. The downpipe is restrictive, and more power can be gotten pretty easily by swapping it out.
You could likely just go with the downpipe/cat swap out and get a take off M3 exhaust. I got one for $80, pretty cheap. Never got around to putting it on.
**Update** Found this link for ya...

Any one of those ebay systems isn't going to be anything less than a fart cannon. If you want to maintain the noise level that you had on your stock/stolen muffler, get an ANSA which is decent quality, quiet and reasonably priced.

Just find someone parting out a similar car.
323's had a single exhuast post cat. Use Realoem.com to look at diagram...

You can use entire exhaust from a 325, 328, or M3, but will need it from the manifolds back:
Something like this:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/DUAL-3-MUFFLER-TIP-RACING-CATBACK-EXHAUST-SYSTEM-92-98-BMW-E36-3-SERIES-M3-6CYL/400721320554?hash=item5d4cda1a6a:g:cXgAAOSw4Dxagk6 Y&vxp=mtr
Or again find it used, just make sure it comes with cat back and midpipe. All (US) 6 cylinder exhausts mount up to the same spot at the manifolds.
