Have a 328xi, replaced all the coil packs a year ago as well as spark plugs, no CEL and not throwing any codes. Problem happens occasionally at 70mph. A sudden engine hiccup and shudder lasting about 1 second and then nothing. Problem started about 6 months ago and was very occasional but last highway drive(about 30 minutes) happened twice. The hiccup does not happen under any sudden acceleration just a steady cruise and the car is fully up to speed. Hate to just spend 100's po dollars on a new set of coil packs again.

I would check some of the tech articles for the various sensors in the fuel injection section

I had a similar situation and it was the Crankshaft position sensor. A scan should show a fault to verify. If it goes bad, you're engine and trans will go into limp mode until you restart.

Thanks for that link. I did not know so many write ups existed. (none for my side mirrors though)
