97 bmw 318i, having a problem with a p0100 maf code. Got a new maf and still have the code, runs great with the maf unplugged.
The bentley manual says the fpr on cars manufactured before jan 97 are on the fuel rail and cars manufactured after are under.
Well my car is may of 97 and the engine has been changed before i got it and has the fpr on the fuel rail and under the car.when i got it there was no vacuum line hooked to the one on the fuel rail so i spliced into the intake line to the fpr.now im looking into why my car wont stay running with the maf plugged in with out feathering the throttle. Should both fpr's be plugged in to vacuum?

Did it ever run good with this different engine? very important to have the vacuum line on the FPR, without it the pressure is too high at idle. You should probably eliminate the one under the car but I am not knowledgeable on the 4cyl setup.

These two diagrams are for the 5/97 318i, they show that the FPR on the rail is not on this car (grey'd out on the diagram) and that it uses the 3/2 valve and FPR that is usually under the car (below driver seat).

You should figure out what engine you have and then decide which FPR you should use.

It is the m44 engine i have. I been told to bypass the under car fpr and use the one on the engine.

By bypassing the under car fpr will it effect the 2-3 valve

If i keep the fpr on the engine can i completely remove/bypass the 3-2 valve

I think you can. It looks like older 318's didn't have it.
