Anybody have an E34 strut cartridge handy?

I bent a coilover shock on my fish house last weekend and I'm looking to make something heavier duty than what I've got in there. I have a pair of dirt track Carrera coilovers in there now out of a late model circle track car. It occurred to me the other day a front strut from a car is a way sturdier design than what I've got. Plan is to just use the shock cartridge and top of the strut housing and fab up my own housing and spring perches. Just from looking at pictures I think a pair of e34 front struts should do. Anybody know the free length and stroke of an e34 strut cartridge?

I honestly have no idea what you just said. You lost me at fish house. But I do have a whole strut assembly handy and can measure the length for you.

Stroke is 6" and the overall length extended is about 28".

Is that length from the tip of the shaft to the bottom of the housing? Stroke until it hits the bump stop? Anybody know the length of just the shock cartridge out of the housing?
