1995 E34 525i Ticking/Knocking (Rod Knock?)

I just started hearing a loud ticking/knocking and was wondering if anyone can help me identify what it is. I didn't notice it until after I did an oil change. I don't know what type of oil was in it, but it was pretty nasty so I put in some of my friends 'Mobil 1 0W-40 full synthetic' that had around 4k miles on it.

Sounds like lifter tick to me.

That’s lifter noise . Has the car been sitting a while? 0/40 is the wrong weight 5/30 is what the m50 normally takes. I had the same noise on a motor that hadn’t run for 6 months 3500 rpms for 2 min intervals with 1 min in between took maybe 10 mins and it the noise was gone

Yea, just bought the car and it has 312k miles on it. Don't know how long exactly, but it's definitely been sitting a while. I ended up putting a piece of wood to valve cover and listening, and with the opinion of two other people, we concluded it was lifter noise. A few good revs later and the noise has quieted down a ton and completely stopped a few times.
