I bought a 1995 525i yesterday, and today when I went to do the stomp test, I couldn't get it to work at all. The check engine light didn't blink at all on any attempts. Here's a video of both me, and a friend attempting it. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Did you do it fast enough? The 5 stomps have to be in less than about 2 seconds I think and you need to start stomping as soon as you turn the key to position 1

Everything I've read has said the key should be in position 2, is it supposed to be in position 1? And from the videos I watched, I'd say I did it plenty fast, but I was hoping someone could watch the videos I recorded and tell me.

It is Position 2, I'm sure that was just a typo. Book says 5 stomps to the floor and released within 5 seconds of key hitting position 2, which is the " run" position, but engine not started. Generally, if the test isn't working, it indicates a problem with your tps, but it does sometimes require a bit of finesse.

Can you watch the videos I posted and tell me if I'm doing it correctly? I just went out and tried it again about 15 more times and couldn't get it. I'll have to check the TPS tomorrow though, thanks.

Exact same issue here. Couldn't get stomp test to work. But that being said, my check engine light was not ACTIVELY on. I just saw that it came on during a drive, and turned off after 30 seconds. So it could be that there are no codes?

From what I understand you should be able to do the stomp test regardless of your check engine light being on, and there being no codes. With no codes, you should be able to do it normally and get the 1444 "No Fault Codes" code. I'm just repeating what I've read though, this is my first car, haha.

If you have a WOT switch/kickdown switch at the end of the pedal travel, you should be hitting that at every stomp.

It is possible your kickdown switch is bad or wires corroded.

Turns out there was just a ton of slack in the throttle cable. Tightened it up and got the stomp test to work on the first try, and to my surprise, the 312k mile car threw no codes.

Just realized my Check Engine light is still on even though the only code I got was 1444. Any ideas what could cause this?
