I rescued the 1998 M3 from near death. It had a blown engine. I bought it from the original owner in Boston with 184k. It was rather clean but she left it parked outside for a year where the paint faded in some parts. Reason I picked it, had a clean title and no under body rust. It had some fender rust but that was cut and sealed when the fenders were installed.
The engine is a stock 2002 LS1/T56 out of a firebird, bought from CL from someone who bought it from Hawks Third Gen. 100k on the engine when I bought it. I resealed the engine with all new accessories. Dynoed at 321whp and 353 wtq.
Swap kit I used is CX racing. I did the swap myself with a friend. Used the OEM GM harness and PCM wired into the BMW 20 pin connector. Stock M3 rad, SPAL fan wired to a hard switch. All gauges functional. Water temp is inaccurate since BMW's run cooler than LS1, I use OBD live data for that. Poly bushings in the rear subframe and RTAB's. New stock control arms and FCAB's in the front.
I built this car to clean up slowly and use on the track. It is completely gutted. The goal was one day to maybe paint the whole thing. I had no intention of ever selling it, but I don't have much time to go to the track anymore and I want a nice DD sports car. I have plenty more pics from the swap that I can send you if you are interested.
Upgrades:
Porsche 996 Front Brembo calipers
UUC front Sway bar
BC coil overs
Felony Form over fenders
ACT clutch rated to 750 ft lbs
Custom straight pipe exhaust with small race muffler.
Renown steering wheel
MKAH motorsports door card delete (V1 - not happy with fitment, MKAH said they will exchange the set for their new cards)
Sparco R100 seats with sliders. Cloth is slightly faded due to the sun.
Enkei RPF1's 17x10 square redrilled to 5x120
New RE71-R tires (less than 500mi on them)
Active auto works diff brace
ECS tuning strut bar
The bad:
NO AC (Heat is functional)
Driver's door is dented. Can easily be swapped to a new door. The fenders were painted cosmos.
Window trims are cracked (I have 2 new ones will be included in sale)
Passenger door has some rust (can also be swapped)
Quarter sized dent on the roof
Hood /spoiler/nose panel need paint (the whole car should be painted - I never cared for it since it was a track car)
Bumpers are scuffed
Typical E36 rust spot in the panel under the trunk
Sweats oil from the oil pan gasket
One wheel has a little curb rash, ~3/4 in
WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION (At least in NJ)
12k OBO. Located in North NJ. Will post more pics when I get home. Feel free to ask any questions. Thanks!
