No.

Think about it for a second.

Bmw wants to have the rolls royce and mini brand, because a brand is an asset. The mini brand lets them gain access to another market, and incorporate a different image..

You cant just kill off a brand name because you own it. You pay money to buy the brand in the first place.

Plus its not a bmw, its a mini, OWNED by bmw..

NO! If they did I doubt they'd sell that many.

In Europe this would not apply, but in the US it would screw BMW up - BMW is high luxury - to put a 20k economy car in the showroom would devalue the appeal of a 100K 760iL. Think of Volkwagen oppositely - the Phaeton W12 cost 95k+ and people have a hard time fathoming that since VW is supposed to be a people's car (Golf/Rabbit/Bug) - BMW will have the same problem.

It'd be akin to selling Chryslers along side Mercedes Benz.

In Europe, where BMW does sell less expensive models the Mini would be direct competion to its own models and therefore one model would die due to lack of sales.

Besides since it is FWD, if it were badged a BMW, purists might get a tad bit upset.

BMW would also loose out on a major money maker = the MINI name and all the merchandising that has gone alone with the MINI brand.

I thought it was a joint venture between Benz/Chrysler and BMW

Yes, thanks for being clear with the facts unlike some people. ;)

And no, the MINI shouldn't be badged BMW, its not a BMW. Just because it shares many components with BMWs I believe its not of the same stock as BMW, not made in their plants, etc. BMW is however stamped on all sorts of parts around my car (brake calipers, struts, in the engine bay, etc). MINI itself has a proud racing heritage and huge enthusiast base that would be very upset if it were to be badged a BMW.

Anyway, if it were badged a BMW then I wouldn't get any pleasure from beating up on the roundel boys at the BMWCCA autocrosses. :D

Well exqueeze me.Dodge is part of Chrysler.Wait let me research that first. Joint Chrysler/Benz/Bmw venture means,"Hey can we use your Dodge engine in our little BMW?"No offense ment, just stating the facts.

Which Chrysler - no which Dodge model uses the 1.6L motor?

ABSOLUTELY NONE - BMW designed the motor with Benz/Chrysler and BMW.

Your facts are skewed.

No offense though. :rolleyes :rolleyes

I voted NO because I can't think of any good reason for doing this. I can however think of a hundred not to...

I found a nice yellow Cooper S in Chicago this past weekend, called my friend here in Michigan and he ended up buying it. Can't wait to drive it....

I say no because they need to recreate their racing heritage in there own way and staying with the Mini name will help them do that faster. Dont get me wrong, BMW makes a fine car as does Mini, as a matter of fact I will venture into the FWD after I pay my car off and get the 3.2 M motor in my 325is running. Mini is an incredible car.

Lets keep "Mini" that way!!

simply put, it is not a bmw
it is a mini

why would they want to rebadge it?

it would only bring harm to both brands

Actually I'm pretty sure that same motor is used in Dodge Neons, could be wrong though.

Oh and when I say Dodge Neons, I am talking non-US spec.
