We'll, im almost ready to order these, and still have not gotten a definate answer. I've searched, but i dont think this question has been answered yet.

I finally got my two 8.5" contours, and am ready to order some tires. I was gonna go with Falken Azenis ST115's, because im not liking my michelins right now.

My Planned Setup

255/40/17 - Rear
235/40/17 - Front

My car is stock, not lowered or anything. Will i have any rubbing issues? I was not planning on roling the fenders, but if it has to be done, i gotta find the tool.

255's theoretically should fit on an 8.5" wide rim correct?

Should be just fine. I had 255/40's on 8.5' wheels w/o rubbing on stock suspension. It's probably pushing it with the width though. I felt like the sidwalls were a little mushy. FWIW, I like my setup now w/ 235's on 8" wheels all around.

They are ordered....now i gotta wait :(

And if it rubs....i plan on going to work, buying some body hammers, and hammering the shit out of the rear fenders.

BTW, i work for my local snap-on dealer.

i gues i got to u a little late

i have 255/40zr17on 17x9 in the rear with pirelli p zeros and they look a bit big.....i.e. like drag racing tires. i did not lower my car but had my fenders rolled. i reccommend 235 or 245 the most on urs. i am going back to 245 after i wear out these sets.

Well, my 235's came a day early. Im hoping my 255's come tomorrow.

95M395, why do you suggest running 245's at most?

255 will fit in ur 8.5 but it will look funny. too much meat on the bun. i have 255's on my 17x9 and it's just too big. by going from 245 to 255, i am adding ....1/3 mm on each side of the tires, so having extra meat on a smaller rim ..like 8.5...ur adding more than 1/3 mm on each side. since there are even more meat, it's gonna look thicker than a 40 series tires. more like a 50 series.

hope that helps and is a little bit more clearer.

the st115 runs thin so a 245 looks like a 235

Im not sure i agree with that. I compared it to my old michelin, and it looks just as wide.

The answer to my previous question.

Will 255/40/17 rub on a Stock suspension, 95 M3.

Yes. but only over bumps when the car bottoms out. The edge of the fender catches the tire.

I hammered it out a little, and it got better, but i will be rolling my fenders soon.

Thats sorta what i did to my fenders. Now i NEED the fender rolling tool before i chew up my tires.
