I bought 17 inch OEM 194M wheels for winter and they were perfect. So I decided to run Rondell 0021 17 inch wheels, which I had lying around, for summer.

Both have the same width and ET, so I expected perfect fit, but NO!
The wheels were so snug against the caliper, they wouldn't even spin. Tried again with another set, this time BBS RK, same issue! And no, it's not ET related, since the inner diameter of the wheel is so much smaller, spacers will not help. My 335d brakes are just so massive.

BMW states that 17" is safe minimum.
Are 3rd party wheels really so much thicker? Or are OEM wheels designed differently?
Any recommendations on 3rd party 17 inch wheels that will fit my car?

Yes the 3rd party wheels are different. I have borberts for winter wheels and had to relocate the weights because they where hitting the caliper that's how close they are.

I really love the brakes' stopping power, but damn, it's really frustrating to have to test-fit everything before buying.

What I really want, is to score a set of something oldschool, like Style5 or Style21. Anyone ever tried those on for size?

Went for 18-inch wheels instead, case closed.
