I am new to this thread and new to BMW so forgive me for the dumb questions. I recently bought a used 2009 bmw 328i Xdrive and it did not come with an alarm (well kinda, it locks and unlocks and rolls down the windows only, no roll up). I am looking to see if there is an alarm that anyone recommend that i can install or have install that will use my current BMW key fob. I am not looking to carry two key fob, so a lot of the after markets brand are out of the questions. Any recommendations will be helpful.
thank you in advance . :help

What's your build date? Pre 03/2009 you can retrofit the oem alarm and it won't cost an arm and a leg. After 03/2009 it won't be so easy

The DIY seems simple enough. I took mine to my Indy shop and had them do it. Even if you DIY, you'll still need to get the alarm coded

You just need to add a code to the Vehicle Order number to signify that the car should have the alarm, then code a couple of modules to tell them to utilize the alarm. This can be done manually with NCS Expert, or mostly automatically with ISTA-P under the retrofit menu. Coding means configuring the modules for the options and equipment for your car.

"Coding" or "Retrofitting" the alarm (or satellite radio, or other options) basically just tells the car you've added that option to it, and to make it recognize it and start working.
