View Full Version : e34 Factory alarm no siren sound
Hi
I have a BMW Factory alarm system, but suddenly the siren stopped working (it's actually not a siren more of a Beep horn, it always was ever since I got the car 20 years ago)
I have the following 2 button key, the BMW logo button locks / unlocks the car the 2nd button arms the Alarm system and engages the deadlock.

What could be the problem, is it a fuse? I check the horn and it works when I give it 12v.
I also would like to know how to get a confirmation tone when I arm the system or unlock the car.. (Unlocking the car with the key automatically disarms the alarm)
PS: the key is infrared not IR...
thanks in advance.:)

Here is one case where the siren/alarm horn stopped, read the cpl. thread, the problem was the remote key http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/1265116
The normal horn and the alarm horn are 2 different ones, probably you tested the normal horn, the alarm horn is hidden, read the thread, I explained where it is located.

@shogun: I have the same problem, locks work but no horn sound. I plan to replace the basic module. On that score, I have read a procedure for removing and installing a new module that includes the step of connecting the positive and negative battery leads after they have been removed from the battery. Is this correct?

That is just the resetting procedure to all modules to default. You disconnect both battery cables and connect them directly together (without touching the battery poles with the cables!!!), so all capacitors go faster empty. Same you can do by just removing the battery cables and leave them disconnected by lets say 30 minutes.
See my website http://twrite.org/shogunnew/topmenu.html under fixes>>>>control systems>>>resets.
But if you install a new module, it has been powerless anyway already, so no need to reset.
But before you do that, note down all the codes you need for radio and whatever needs a code, also the OBC then has to be reset with date and hour.
@shogun I have tested the right horn. It is located under the windshield next to the wiper passenger side.
I have changed the battery a couple of weeks ago. And the power was off for more than 30 mins.
Could it be a relay?
the alarm works fine since when tripped the hazards flash, and the little light on the dash lights up.

Anyone have a source for rebuilt basic modules? I see there is a seller in Puerto Rico that sells them on the auction site, but no current listings for 61358368571, or 61358360103.
OK it is fixed..
I found that the horn was causing the relay to stick, thus blowing a fuse. when I tested it I put direct current to so it so it worked, when it's in the circuit it blows the fuse.
I replaced the horn with a lower current one and now it works fine.
still having problem with no confirmation sound when arming or disarming the alarm system, all I get is the hazards flashing when I arm it, and nothing when disarming.
any help with that?
