FRM's failing during coding is a known issue with BMW. Most of the vehicles have a warranty extension on it. However, you won't just be able to go down to the dealer and pick one up for free. It has to be diagnosed, replaced, and programmed by the dealer. Not exactly sure what problems you're having with your vehicle, but it doesn't sound like your car will be able to be programmed by the dealer if you're talking about donor DME's and CAS modules.

I had this issue on my 09' 335D when i attempted to update the Sw level. Apparently it is an issue with earlier FRM's where the voltage regulator freaks out and bricks the module. I have to order and replace mine on my dime. Wasn't terrible, just annoying.
