Hi y'all. I'm new to the site. I have a love / hate relationship with this 96' BMW 318. I recently had to replace the radiator from a slight crack. I changed, that, thermostat, etc. it drove fine for day or two, than in NYC 19degree weather started overheating. I replaced water pump and plastic piece behind motor before firewall. After all drove fine for day. Than at night overheat. I've spent all day trying to bleed system. The heat from defroster blows cold now. Still overheating. Anyone have suggestion? I don't think head gasket is blown. I ran car 15-20 min trying to bleed system but no success. Had it up on ramp, open valve. Steam and some gurgling antifreeze. But it began to run hot. I'm all out of ideas.

I hope you turned it off right away when it overheated. Is the belt and tensioner in good condition?

?"open valve' "steam and gurggling"?? Explain better what you did an observed.

The bleeder valve. I bled system. Runs Good now. I noticed the breather hose ontop of cylinder is worn. Is it possible vacuum leak from there?
