Metal is ripping on drivers door around door brake. Any suggestions on how to repair? I noticed the ripping a few years ago and purchased a reinforcement plate that has slowed it down.

I am thinking a welding repair, if possible and repaint the frame. rather not go through a used door, repaint etc. Any opinions?

Long time no see. Weld it or a bigger patch plate.
Is your door check binding? I've plenty spares, let me know.

Thanks, I guess I have been quiet. My e34 basically sit in the garage, only 1,200 miles last year. So if nothing breaks if you don't drive it. Well, almost nothing. :)

My door check is fine, the entire internal door brake mechanism was replaced a couple of years ago. If I remember it was a pain.

I think I plan on welding it. Going to take it my favorite body shop on Monday for a consultation.

I have had the replacement door on the 95 525i re-welded and installed the reinforcement plates when reinstalled on car. I was lucky to find a white drivers door that needed minor re-welding to fix the small cracks.

I would spend the money on re-welding by your local shop.
