Do you think an E36 can run with no MAF sensor?

Here's proof.

Symptoms are very similar to those of having an inoperative VANOS.

And?

Really?

Have you ever tried this?

No, but how is this helping someone diagnose an issue? Are you saying that an inoperative MAF won't cause drivability issues?

No. Had you read my other thread on VANOS issues, (rather than making a one or two word comment) you'd see that having an inoperative MAF gives similar symptoms to a bad VANOS.

With my $500 junkbox 323i I'm trying to show people what can happen, and the symptoms, so that people (like you) with really nice E36's don't have to.

I apologize.. I did not see your other post. Makes sense why I was confused as to where you were coming from. Thanks for sharing.

We've always known that you can run a car without an MAF. It will make your engine run extremely rich. No big revelations here. I've never heard anyone say it can't be done. There even a method of tuning that eliminates the need for one. It's called Alpha N.

One of the oldest tricks in the book for helping diagnose a car that has a bad MAF or large vacuum leak is to see if it runs better with no MAF. It's not a true test but it helps to guide a technician in the correct direction. Or in the case of E46's when they come in on a tow truck not running with a completely ripped MAF boot I just walk out unplug the MAF and drive it in haha.

That's not my point.

This is obviously Micko's point :
