My 1995 325i won't shift into 3rd on the first try 90% of the time, but it only happens when shifting from 2nd. Downshifting from 4th or 5th it shifts perfectly fine. Any ideas? I just ordered a new shift rod joint and I have a DSSR already installed. The bushings are fine, there's only a few millimeters of slop.

E36 gearboxes have synchros you can shift without double clutching

Double clutching? Seriously?

1.) You only double clutch on the downshift.
2.) You ouly double clutch if you don't have synchros.
3.) There is absolutely no reason to double clutch your BMW. None. Not any. Unless the transmission is toast.
4.) The OP has a transmission problem that points to -- wait for it -- synchros.

No, the synchros are out on 4th, not 3rd. It happened just randomly, not over time. It isn't a synchros problem.

Well if it was synchros then it wouldn't shift from 4th either. It shifts fine from 4th and 5th, but from 2nd it barely shifts at all. I think it might be a gate problem
