Hello! It's been a while, hope everyone is well. One of the cars just started acting up. Wasn't sure where to start looking. (stalk, speed sensor, reset/home button in the wiper mechanism or the relay under the dash)

Wipers work fine if you hold the stalk down manually to turn them on but if you let go of the stalk they stop mid-wipe. Intermittent is no longer speed sensitive, they just run at the slower 'on' setting --and slow & high constant work fine but both stop mid-wipe when you turn the wipers off. Sounds like a combo of diff speed sensor and home reset button/location in the motor/linkage --but hoping someone chimes in knowing exactly what causes this.

Thanks.

EDIT: Apparently now the problem is intermittent. At times the wipers will stop mid-wipe and sit there until the stalk is engaged again, at times the wipers will stop mid-wipe and stay put until the car is power cycled (ignition turned off & back on) and now it seems they are working fine again. Any thoughts on where to start looking? Thanks.

Check the control relay under the dash. Mine had a bad solder on the circuit board and caused a complete inop issue. But bad solders can also cause intermittent problems as you've described. Its pretty easy to get at so if start there

Thanks. I'll start there. I don't remember how much they are but iirc it's no big deal to pull it and re-solder the pins. If that's not it then any idea where to look next? Should I change the speed sensor in the diff just because it's easy & cheap --or look to the wiper linkage? Doubt it's the stalk.

Yeah it comes apart very easily. And i want to say new ones are like 50 bucks. If that's not it I don't think it would look at your linkage. A bad speed sensor would throw off your intermittent setting but it shouldn't effect the wipers fully cycling
