1995 540iA Cranks but won't start

The car ran when I parked it 6 months ago, I replaced the water pump and thermostat. Once I tried to start it now, the crash control module kept the hazard lights on and prevented it from cranking at all, so I removed it. Now the car cranks, and makes a bit of noise, but won't start even with the car in neutral and there's a faint smell of gas. I replaced the starter a year ago and have only started it a few times since then, so it can't be that. I tried spraying lighter fluid into the intake but that had no effect, so there's probably fuel. I'm about out of ideas, can I have some help?
