" Smoked" we Yanks call them. An aftermarket styling thing, illegal in some places here in the colonies.

Are they quite unusual ? i might remove them and sell them as the car is probably being ssold next week :( i cant find any info on them if they are original fit, they dont appear to have been tinted with film or spray. thanks

you can find them on eBay.de They come up there regularly. Google BMW E34 Hella schwarze Rückleuchten

whether the lights are OE Hella smoked tails, I dont know.

But I love the snow pictures! rooster-tails FTW!

We call them Rear Hella Black :) They are rare.
You can buy crosses, black termo paint and turn your front lamps into Hella Black. But with rear lights it`s impossible. You can "smoke" stock rear lights by paint or tint but it looks not so good...

i honestly don't like the smoked style too much but when taillights on an e34 are full red it looks pretty good imo

Between stock rear lights most cool are lights with white turn lights. But they are not so cool as Hella Black

Touring taillights don't interchange with sedan ones. This is the first I hear of aftermarket tails for the wagons (estate for you in the UK) other than that obscure Radicast clear turnsignal from back in the day. You sure these aren't spray-tinted? It's easy to do...

What he said, I've also never heard mention of a "black" or "tinted" factory tail lamps for the tourings. Isn't that what they also call them in the UK? Thought MB called them estates, and wagon was a term we use here specifically on our side of the ocean for the most part.
