Hey guys I need some advice. I interested in 97 328 convertible with 104K, it is silver and with the sports package and a CD changer, manual tranny. The owner is asking $12,750. I of course would like to see him negotiate at least a bit on this depending on the condition.

I haven’t driven it yet but for this discussion let’s assume that it is in very good to excellent condition. I will be having a mechanic evaluate it with me. What do you guys think?

My buddy feels like it is not the best time of the year to by drop top but I can’t find many of these with manual transmissions so if I have an opportunity I would like to make a move. Additionally I can’t imagine someone asking a whole lot less than bluebook no matter the season.

Bluebook is between $11,925 (good) and $12,840 (excellent).

at '94/'95's and the good ones (this year) were selling for around $13k with
around 80-100k miles. Like most cars these have a list of common problems which if you spend a couple of hours on this board you can probably do a
good pre-qualify inspection before bringing it to a mechanic. Good luck.

Thanks. I’ve been trolling around so I’ll keep that up! If I get it I’ll post some pics.

Sounds like a reasonable price. Keep in mind that the blue book quotes dealer prices where you have a limiited warranty and somewhat of a guarantee that there is no pre-existing problem with the car - they are legally bound to fix any problems thay are aware of before selling it. Plus, they have to cover their overhead. A private party should sell lower that a dealer because you don't get those perks na dthe private party doesn't have to pay salesmen.

That’s good to know. I ran it at www.kbb.com and the form has you qualify the inquiry as retail, trade-in or private party. In fact the retail price was more than $14K.

So I think this is reasonable though it is a bit more than what I want to pay especially with 104K on the clock. I may stretch some if the car is in really great shape. Anyway it is good to have you look over the deal with me. Thanks again!
