'06 328xi E90 transmission problem

Hi, today I got into my car and needed to shift into reverse to get out of my parking spot when there was no reverse gear to be felt. The engine revved freely. Can anyone help?

Also, I freaked out and started looking around for a possible replacement. If it's necessary, would a 2011 335xi's tranny work?

Automatic or manual transmission?

My 2006 325xi with 6 speed automatic transmission uses a ZF transmission. But many cars are equipped with a GM 6 speed transmission. The 328 used the GM automatic, not the ZF automatic.
