Hi, I just replaced the front brake pads and sensor cable on my 2006 330i because the front brake pad light was on. Now after the replacement the ABS light is on in addition to the front brake light. Is this normal? Should the sensor lights be automatically turned off? Can anyone provide procedure to turn them off?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, John

Hi John,

You would need to turn off the code manually using a reader. This will reset the codes for next time a service is needed.

You probably forgot put new sensor when change pads. Light from dash should come off automatically without reseting the error. Old sensor will keeping loop close as it's tearoff together with old pads.
But if you change sensor together with pads try unplug it and plug it again making sure that socket for it is completely dry inside.
I got ones ,around 2 years ago problem with new sensor when changed. I replace it as it's been faulty. Eurocarparts exchange it for me without problem.

Thanks Dmitry and elpatriko for the quick replies.
However, I am confused.
- On a 2006 330i is it necessary to manually reset the sensor lights on dash? Or should the new sensor automatically reset the light?
- Do you know why the ABS light is turned on after the pad and sensor cable replacement? Would the brake fluid trigger the ABS light because some fluid leaked out when I pressed the brake piston.

Thanks, Again.

Fluid should not come out when you preset piston. Check fluid level and fix the leak. If u preset piston and it's leaking that's happened also when you press your brake pedal.
Yes dash light should come out when change cable sensor. The error will be stored in memory but it should dissappear from dash board like most of fouls tiger ed by sensors. Brakes errors work similar to bulbs errors but are generated by other way. Bulbs error when loop is broken. Brake error when loop is closed

Also if the piston come out and you put it back you need take out air bubble wrom caliper by bleeding it with small screw with nipple. You unscrew it litle bit and someone need to press brake pedal. When air is released and fluid coming out you screw it back

If you need easy tool to reset errors and diagnostic u can buy on play store carly BMW and order the cable. You will pay for it around same money what one visit at your indy to do basic diagnostic and resetting errors. The difference is that u will pay once an will be able diagnose your car at any time as app is for mobiles. Cable you keep in glove box . Thats what I do. Also this app alow you do some basic coding without learning inpa and German language.

And last thing. Check your abs sensor. You could accidently broke it when you do stuff around or is simply covered with some brake pads dust.

Thanks elpatriko for all the good advise.

I will check the sensor cable, the brake fluid level and any leak. Hopefully these will fix my problems.

Thanks.

Did you put the sensor back in right? Or had it changed out...

Is there a DIY thread on doing brakes on the E90 beemers, in terms of tools needed?
It'll be something I'll just do myself.

There is nothing special about these cars when doing brakes. Here's what you roughly need: lug nut wrench, 16 mm socket for the caliper carrier, brake pad paste, a Philips screwdriver to unclip the anti-rattle clip and your favorite tool to push back the cylinder back in the caliper.
