Okay folks, I've been holding out long enough and I really want to try and address my yellow dust issue with the headliner. My interiors for Braunie are in very good condition with the exception of the yellow dust issue:mad. I'm planning to hand over this low mileage 628csi Classic over to my niece (if she wants it). I've stored it away and it really needs to be driven.

I have been thinking Scotchguard products or somekind of spray on sealer. Without spending hundreds to redo the headliner, the theory is trying to harden the cloth headliner so that the yellow dust cannot make it past the cloth. Can be done? Anyone try? Interested in ideas thoughts or feedback on what I'm thinking of.

Thanks in advance.

I used Scotchguard on the seats of my Mom's Ford (kind of a fuzzy velour material) when it was new, and it didn't change the texture of the fabric at all, which is what I think most users would want. It's more of an ionic repellent, I'm guessing, than a sealer of sorts, so it's probably not going to help with your headliner. But, SEM makes products to recolor fabrics and carpets which might help. If you want to refresh the color you can pick from a pretty good selection, or if you just want to seal it, you might try their satin clear finishing spray. Maybe something like this:

You might try "303 Fabric Protector". It's a water proofing sealer for fabric. I use it on the convertible top of my SL500 and nothing gets through it. Mine is a canvas top, so it works very well to seal it.

The bummer part is working upside down to spray it or any product like that on. Wear safety glasses and a respirator (not a dust mask) no matter what you decide to use as it's probably not real healthy stuff and it's going to be raining down on you when you're spraying it. Also, mask off the window frames/glass/dashboard/center console etc., and cover the seats with moving blankets/tarps/polyethylene or something. Not sure how "fabric" protector will affect leather.

Good Luck and let us know how it all works out.

The "yellow dust" is the deteriorating foam backing and there is no way to consolidate that. Suggest you visit a few trim shops for an estimate. You also then have the option to upgrade to another/cleaner fabric.
