I've gotten curious as to the meaning of this sticker under the hood of my car. Anyone know what it means?

it means, that there has been a repair done, maybe a body part or panel has been changed after a collision or smth of that kind. I guess, you don't have to worry, the repair has been done by the BMW dealer or the facotry itself.
Replacement panel, not original to the car. I don't remember when the process started but the factory puts stickers with the vehicle's VIN on the panels and certain areas of the body itself at the factory. If the vehicle is involved in an accident or for whatever any other reason and a panel, (or a door, hood, trunk lid, etc.) needs to be replaced the replacement will have a DOT-R sticker on it.

Thanks. I had a clue that the hood had been swapped because I had a hell of a time getting the proper windshield washer nozzles. After a few attempts at ordering the early-style (smaller) heated nozzles by the VIN, I finally tried a set of the later-style and found they fit the bigger holes in the hood. Thus, the plumbing for the dual-inlet nozzles was a bit simpler, but not visually-correct for this '85 Euro car. The car turned out OK, though;
