Recently I noticed that if I drive/cruise at around 2500 rpm my engine surges, It'll surge up to around 3500 or so then jump back down to where it was. It doesn't happen consistently but it's a pain when it does. I'm guessing it's a vacuum leak? Also at what RPM should the car idle? I noticed mine does at 600 and I wasn't sure if it should be higher/lower.

I assume that you have an auto transmission. It sounds like it is jumping in/out of overdrive (4th gear) and or the torque converter is unlocking.
My 87 showed similar symptoms, it was a poor connection at the positive post of battery that supplied the transmission CPU, terrible to troubleshoot, easy fix.

yup I have an auto. I'll check my battery connection. You're probably right. I remember my obc resetting once a while back after I left it over the weekend so I'm guessing it's the battery. Thanks I would've never thought his had anything to do with the battery.
