Have some free time tomorrow and want to swap out the trans fluid in my '99 M3/2/5 since the shifts are starting to feel a bit notchy and downshifting into 3rd requires a light touch. Went to Napa to pick up Royal Purple Synchromax since there seemed to be a decent consensus on the forum that RP was the way to go. Unfortunately Napa carries every RP fluid except transmission. They recommended Valvoline Synchromesh MTF as an alternative so I went ahead and bought 2 quarts. Before I waste time putting it in, has anyone used it? If so, were you happy with the results?
Thanks, ELS

Pretty much any ATF will do. Yes you can get fancy and use MTL and ATF or lots of other things, but, if the fluid is changed every so often, (say every inspection 2 which should be about 30,000 miles.) any fluid will work. Do the diff while you are at it. Use a 75-90 gear oil, unless you are beating the snot out of it on the track.

Possibly yes. Case is point is early 320z transmissions (95-early 97) were filled with ATF. 97+ were filled with MTF. The ATF filled gearboxes go for hundreds of thousands of miles without any detent issues. MTF filled boxes have issues as early as 60k miles.
