Is there a trick to removing and replacing the fuel lines that come into the engine bay at the front drivers wheel well? I can't see or reach the place where the rubber line meets the metal line that comes into engine bay. Should i loosen or unfasten the metal lines to be able to pull out enough to get to connection point? I'm trying to replace all the old rubber lines on the car.

I did that as part of my awakening project for my 87 M6. The most time saving method I found was to remove the intake manifold along with the six intake funnels. You may need to move the expansion tank out of the way.

It is not as bad as it sounds. Be careful with the nuts for the funnels, a dropped one is a bear to get to. But, with the intake out of the way changing the fuel hose is easy and you also get a good look at the cooling piping underneath in case you need to change anything there.

Magnets are your friends when working with the intake manifold on an M6. So are 1/4" drive sockets/ratchets.

Magnets and paper towels. I found if you stuff some around the funnels it will catch whatever slips your grasp. On the install I learned to start at the back and move forward. The ones in the rear are the hardest to get to and if you drop one and have to take it off again to get to it you haven't got that far into it.

Do you suggest removing more than up to the rubber boots? So to clarify # 1 and #5?

Once the hoses and throttle cables are out if the way, it's 10 and 11. 5 doesn't get you anything. The funnels are too deep into the intake to get the intake out. It will hang up on the drivers wheel well. It should all come out as a unit. Once it is loose you can get underneath and remove 15.

Like I mentioned earlier the nuts on cylinder 6 near the fire wall are a challenge. Stuff some paper towel in the cracks as insurance. I dropped the nut twice installing and every time it wedged itself between the block and the starter. Back off it all came to get it.

Brilliant- thanks so much- pulled it out and access is awesome! Love this forum... Had no idea that the funnels go so deep into the manifold so this info helped a lot.
