Looking for help with an annoying engine problem I have with my '08 328XI. About a month ago my "SES" light came on and my code reader gave me a "P0015" error code: "B" Camshaft position timing over-retarded.

Did some quick research and found out this could be caused be a bad cam shaft position sensor, so I replaced both my intake and exhaust cam shaft position sensors and the "SES" light when off. Then, after a week or so the light came back on again and was accompanied by a clicking sound in the engine. Both cam shaft position sensors I bought were OEM BMW from ECS tuning. However, assuming that maybe one of them was bad I switched back the old sensors because the clicking sound wouldn't go away...still nothing. The "SES" light has been randomly turning on and off, but now has been off for about a week or so. The clicking sound can't be heard when you first start the car, it is only when I step on the gas pedal and accelerate and then it increases proportionally to how fast i accelerate. Also, I have had several instances of stepping on the gas (while already moving) and my rpm's jump but the car doesn't accelerate any faster, THEN all of a sudden the car will jump and accelerate after a short delay.

Anyone have ANY ideas what this could be??? I have been trying to troubleshoot for about a month now because i refuse to go to the stealership. In my troubleshooting I also replaced both my vanos solenoid valves and still nothing. Any help would be much appreciated!

I may be wrong but I think it has to be reset so it looks for the new sensor values

And I take it that "resetting it" is something only the dealer can do right? Anyone have any clue if it is possible to reset on my own?

Thank you for your input/response

The dealer can for sure but some repair centers outside of bmw can as well...it's all about who has the equipment that can. If you look around in the forum there's links to equipment you can buy to do what you need and some alternate ways to resetting everything as well
