Hey guys, I know when the topic of flood cars is brought up the overwhelming response is dont walk, Run away! Well I just did the opposite, purchased a 2008 335I freshwater flood vehicle... I got it home and it now turns over and has working dash, doors, mirrors, etc. I just need it to fire. It came missing the DME, but it turns over without it (this is normal correct?). I figured if I just bought a new key, cas, and dme set it would get me a little closer, but the opposite has happened. With the new CAS, key, and DME it wont turn over at all, even when I take the DME out it still wont turn over. If I swap the old CAS in and use the old key, its back to turning over. Any thoughts?

I have no idea, but good luck. Just hope it doesn't drain your wallet.

I'm completely stumped, but curious how one would fix this.

Ill try and resynchronize the cas key and dme when the cable comes in, but checked today and had good cylinder compression throughout

Surprised it will turn over without the DME but regardless here's how I'd look at it.
Your DME will be responsible for fuel/spark
Your CAS will be responsible for anti-theft/starting
Assuming you got matching DME/CAS/Key (from same car) that should be ok. Since you were able to turn it over on the previous setup, it would
be a good assumption that your IBS is probably good. I'd start with something that is able to pull BMW codes, chances are the CAS isn't happy
about something. There is also a relay in the CAS that can go bad and prevent turning over. This would mean your donor one needs fixed. It's
usually coupled with A0B3 and/or A0B4 codes. This is shown here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpost.php?p=19079513&postcount=36
This would be where I'd start. Once you get it turning over then you can proceed troubleshooting other issues if it still doesn.t fire

Yes to the above. Read through this section of the forum http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?233-Diagnostic-Software
I think you will need DIS to do this. (PA soft doesn't seem to work with E90's).

Carly for BMW will pull them, as you mentioned although dated DIS can to, then INPA, ISTA/D, or any scanner more advanced than over the counter at your local parts store.
