want to make my own CAI

what's the best and cheapest way to build my own quality CAI using parts that i can buy from a local shop like autozone or advanced. could i just buy one of the tubes and put a much better filter on it?

i dont know much about doing it but a friend of mine used to make his own cold air intakes for all of his cars. i will give him a call and he could tell me what the best route to take is, if you want?
