What the hell do those green, yellow, red instrument cluster lights mean???

I have a 93 325i with no manual (ordered one). Everytime I start the car, on the instrument cluster there are four or five green lights, and a space for a yellow one and a red one. All the greens are lit, the yellow and red are blank. It turns itself off after a few seconds, disappears completely.

The curiousity is killing me, and I couldn't find it through "search"

Those indicate how close your getting to your next oil change. The green eventually one by one disappear, til they get to the yellow, then when it hits red, I believe it'll say Oil Service or some shit when you start the car.

Can't honestly remember, its been a few months since I've let it go to red.

That's what signals when you need an oil change. When the greens go away, change the oil....
