Amsoil 5w-40...comments??

Debating on which oil to use on my next oil change. I've been running the factory 15w-40 with zero problems and no burning, but after doing some searching it seems a lot of people don't use it. i came across this amsoil blend, just wondering what people thought so i could get some feedback. BTW i also looked into 10w-60, seems like overkill and it's really pricey. 15w-50 seems ok too, but I don't know what application suits my driving needs best. The car sees very high speeds and high rpms on a regular basis.

Has the factory oil your using been a synthetic? If not, then stepping up to Any synthetic will be an improvement. If it Was a synthetic, I doubt that your car will see much benefit by stepping up to this $6.30/qt amsoil. IVe been using the Amsoil 10w/40 for about 20k miles now at $5.85/qt. But when I use up the stuff I have, Im going to go back to using Mobil1 either 10w-30 or 5w-30. In general, the viscosity of the oil you use is Much less important when your using synethetic than when using dyno oil. Any synthetic wt will more than protect your engine in any conditions its likely to see. But, hey, youre going to get as many answers about oil as you will have people answering. Just do alot of research, until you feel confident, and make a decision.

Amsoil 5w-40 is one of the best oils you can buy for this car.

M1 0w-40 is... nothing special, really. Overall it's not any better than BMW's 5w-30.

So, of the two, definitely Amsoil.

pretty much any website that sells oil, but thats only for SAE oil weights. Any Euro blend they make like 5w-40 or 0w-30 will run 8-9 bucks a quart anywhere u go.

It may seem thin because it flows really well when cold. The trick is that it doesn't thin out as much as a lot of other oils do when it gets hot, so there's still plenty of viscosity left at operating temperature.

There are Amsoil dealers who will sell it to you at their cost, which is in that range for most of their oils IIRC.

Or, you could become an Amsoil Preferred Customer for something like $20/yr, and get it at that price yourself on their website.

Amsoil preferred customer = Tier 1 Dealer Pricing. You get a 6 month preferred customer discount for $10. It's well worth it if you are ordering a bunch of stuff.

All their SAE stuff including the Euro blend is $5.80 / qt.

Just go to Amsoil.com and then click online store. Add a preferred membership for 6 month from the top left and then add your oil and checkout. At check out enter dealer number 1221895. 5w40 Euro costs $5.80 per qt this way.

Yup, I am a preferred member too which makes the oil cheap. The only lame thing is waiting for the package to arrive. When I bought my 3.5" Amsoil air filter I felt I got "suckered" into becoming a preferred customer. But when I decided to try their 5w-40 blend that discount came in handy.
