What is this?

Just got this car and was looking underneath and saw this hanging near the driver side fog light. Couldn't see anywhere it plugged into, and i thought it could be a ground. Anyone know?

Looks to me like your external temp sensor, but not positive

Its an air tempreture sensor. It is supposed to plug into the ducting that you seem to be missing or just removed. The ducting I'm reffering to is the brake ducting that channels the air from the front bumper opening to your wheel well liner opening. Other than losing it if you happen to snag it it isn't going to adversly affect your car just hanging there.

Yup, that's 100% correct. I have the same deal on my '93 - hanging down like that. I think that it is only connected to the on board computer, and doesn't affect any of the fuel injection, although I'm not 100% sure...

Mine has just been hanging for the last year because I don't want to shell out the bucks for a new sensor. Anyone know of a cheap replacement sensor off another car that will also fit our Bimmers?

Glue it in its place so it doesn't come off again. One day while you're driving something around there will cut off the wires and you'll lose the sensor, ask me how I know :D
