View Full Version : Dumb caliper question

Hey guys.

I think I know the answer already but just want to make sure I'm not losing my mind. Ordered a set of rebuilt calipers and brackets from Turner and they arrived assembled (bracket had guide pins installed and guide pins were inserted into guide bushings on caliper). Went to my mechanic to have them installed. I get a call saying the caliper is the same as what's on my car now and fits (yay!) but the bracket doesn't (wtf). They think the bracket is from a 525/528 car.

Is it even possible for a 525/528 caliper bracket guide pins to line up with a 530 caliper? The two cars use different calipers so I don't know how it would line up to begin with.

Anyone have 530 brackets handy? There are numbers printed on the bottom of the brackets that I can compare mine too later tonight.

For now, I have the new calipers and old brackets on. I really hope they were trying to fit the driver's side bracket on the passenger side caliper and vice versa.

Have you checked realoem to compare the part numbers?

There really is no part number printed on them anywhere. There is a 4 or 5 digit code on the bottom of each and it didn't really match any part of the number on realoem. Ill look again tho.

I just meant to check realoem to see if the bracket has a different PN for the 528/530 on the diagrams. That should tell you definitively.

Oh haha. Yes I checked that. Part numbers for all calipers and brackets are completely different. Im just not sure how different they are. Maybe the guide pins are in the same location for each and you are just dealing with rotor size that is making them different?

Ok so I figured out my problem. Got in touch with Turner. Basically with the way rebuilds work, you are guaranteed to get the right caliper but since that caliper might be used on different cars, you have a chance of getting a completely different bracket. The intent is to just use your existing bracket, which kinda sucks because I wanted to paint everything before it was mounted. Right now I have a nice gloss black caliper and crappy looking bracket. So while my indy might be wrong about it being a 525/528 bracket, he didn't have a brain fart and not know how to attach a bracket.

Just FYI to anyone else that might buy rebuilds from Turner Motorsport.

I haven't checked the part numbers but the 530 calipers and brackets are the same as the 540 ones. The rotors are bigger than the 528/525 ones and both the calipers and brackets are different (smaller) than the 530/540 parts.

Turner is not immune to parts mistakes. A while ago I ordered a Jim Conforti CAI for a 528 and received one for a 530-bigger intake hole for the MAF-no workie. The pita was that they had to receive the wrong part back before they'd ship the correct one. One suggestion-can't the shop clean up & reuse your old brackets and you can send the wrong ones back to Turner for a refund.

Well its part of the core charge so that's what I'm ultimately doing. Reuse mine, send back the ones they sent me and the old caliper. Just really wanted to start with brand new looking brackets rather than have to scrub the hell out of the originals haha

It's super easy to remove those brackets later for clean up and paint. But I wouldn't worry about it as no one will ever see the brackets.
