Just a note for those that have encountered the problem of a Hood shut because of a broken cable, or damaged lock/latch. There are lots of posts with this situation, the problem is of different models of BMERS. I just want to share the fix for the 1995 530i M60 Eng. Its very simple. Fortunately, this hood has only one lock/latch on the drivers side. All you have to do is : Remove front grille (Which is one piece, both grilles come out as one piece), now if you look on the right side a little to the left of the inner headlight you'll see a small aperture, (get a bright flash light), there the first thing you'll see is the "Horseshoe" hook that latches to the lock, which is right below it; just get a Flathead screwdriver and genntly poke at it, and i'll pop right up.
