I'm building an 800hp 525 and I would like to know what rear end other people with high power are using. The parts i'm curious about are the diff, axle shafts and drive shaft. I don't trust the 525 axle shafts because I own an 34 520 with a welded diff and the shafts are the same as the 525i but the 520 is able to break the shafts. Are you guy using oem parts from something else or custom shafts.

You'll need to go with a large case diff and matching half axles and stuff from an E32 750. Check out 5mall5nail's build thread to see what he did.

E32 diff, yes. E32 axles? Too long for an E34. You want them off a 535iM, 530iM, 540iA or M, M5, or <1/91 535iA. And even then, they're not a whole lot bigger than 525i ones.

Believe me I read through all his threads and never found any thing.

Thank you. I will go buy them.

You'll be amazed by what the stock stuff can do. I've never heard of the larger half shafts or even the driveshafts having issues. Hell I'm using a medium case diff and axles with 230k on them, 100% original with my setup. They really used to over design stuff.

I remember him saying he was using stock 525 stuff(with some miles too). I don't think he launches the car hard so this may help.
He no longer frequents this section, check the FI sub forum and PM him. He's usually happy to share what he's learned.

You are breaking shafts because of welded diff, not so much because of the shafts being weak, imho.
