Hey all,

current mileage 89k

coming here from the range rover fourms as seems the M62tu issue same issue and same engine. i have been reading for days on this issue but not able to find same issue. and also tried alot things but nothing has helped so far..

Firstly i have replaced the PCV Valve and gaskets/seals, All the pipes and cyclone. also replaced Spark Plugs, front solenoid seals, front intake gaskets, throttle body gaskets and cleaned throttle body, checked for any air leaks around manifold and boots and there is none, cleaned the MAF sensor. Unplugged maf sensor and have same issue with the MAF plugged in or not it does the same thing.

2003 Range Rover 4.4litre V8 - BMW Engine M62TU, i have a few videos below best to watch and see that actually issue.

so when the car warm and i stop put in N or P and rev a little bit rpms go up and then down to say 250 each way (3rd video nearly stalls) and nearly stalls and then it jumps to 1250 and then back to normal, this also drops the voltage on battery from checking and notice the light dim when the rpms go low. but think this an issue as rpm dropping causing voltage to drop.

also when coming to a stop it drop rpms low and nearly stalls but when driving along normally it seems fine ? and if put foot down it seems ok ? its just low RPMs the issue below 2k.

If i hold the throttle a little bit around 1200 rpm the RPMS hunt up and down say 250 each way and even can cause it to stall.

What should i be looking for ? Fuel Pump, Throttle Body, MAF Sensor (even though does same thing with it plugged in or not), throttle position sensor? there are no codes being displayed on ECU at the moment after being scanned and at a lose with it now and even the land rover garage are not sure the issue ! they just want to replace everything.

has anyone seen this issue before?

Hi this seems to happen when the RPM's drop really low, before the car then revs to save the stall.

would this mean anything ? or something i can check.

While I have not researched this issue, it looks to me like an electronic throttle control or idle control problem. I'm having a similar issue with an M52TU on my '99 528, which occurs only at idle. Previously on this car, I had to replace the throttle body when it failed, started running rough and threw a fault. When you scanned for fault codes, was it a full authority scan by a dealer/indy or simply a scan with a store-bought scanner? You'll need all the info you can get!
