Nice! Glad to see they're sticking to the exotic type of engines.

I'd like one too... just have to sell my house and live in it. Although it's almost big enough for that!

I like seeing BMW kinda go back to its roots with the V12 option again, however I really don't see the need. But then again I'm the type that doesn't see the need for BMW to try and get into every available niche or putting the M brand on everything but to each his own. Still in the end a cool car and one of the scariest cars ever outside of warranty.

Only 600hp from a twin turbo v12? This engine should be able to make the hellcat cower in fear. Guess they couldn't keep the chain guides from exploding. ;)

I guess there will be chip tuning for it, to raise more bar in the turbos.. so realistic 800hp easy.

I was thinking the same thing... aren't there twin turbo M73's with less displacement putting out like 800hp out there? Could swear I saw some videos years back. Still, I think for a car of this size and luxury fitout, people won't complain. It'd be like making an E38 750 suddenly put out 600hp and claim it's 'still not enough' haha.
I feel like this is the first new 7 series since the E38 that I am genuinely interested in. Remember how we were all saying that the 650 Gran Coupe would be the only 'new' BMW we'd all like to upgrade to at some point down the line? Well, this new 7 is a pretty tempting alternative too.
Just that $400,000 price tag here is a BIT rich for my taste.

HP doesnt mean much. What is the torque? That is the real power. Also, it may be detuned for longevity.
EDIT, looked it up:
peak torque of 590 lb-ft from as low as 1,500 rpm.
590 foot lbs @ 1500! :)

This gen 7 is going in the right direction for sure. But its not touchable new. And probably wont be touchable used because of nightmarish avionics.
Where did you see that astronomical price? That much in Australia?! wtf

I was thinking along the same lines regarding the electronics... however that being said, the electronics in the E38 were, at the time, state of the art and I'm sure very scary to DIY'ers of the time. I know that the modern electronics in these cars are now 10x more 'exotic', but I think it all comes down to the robustness of the design - if they're designed sensibly, then there is hope for the home mechanic still. I think in 20 years they might be surprisingly easy to keep working on, but we'll have to wait and see haha.
Australia, yeah. It's not set in stone but all reports suggest sale price here will be around the $400k mark. Completely ridiculous. I could buy a 4 bedroom home 5 minutes from the beach for that! Haha, but I guess the same was true back in 1995 when the E38 came out. My 730 sold for just over $200,000 - and that's in 1995 dollars! Crikey.

That's actually a great point. When the E38 750il came out, people were really wary of all the electronics and gadgets, but 15-20 years later, it's quite an easy car to work on.

BMW is known to be conservative with their published power outputs. the new M cars are making just about as much whp as their factory claimed flywheel hp outputs. with a simple tune, they're picking up TONS of power, not to mention even more with an intake and exhaust. it's crazy what these cars do with BPU modifications. imagine what this behemoth V12 could do with these modifications, or some stock frame turbos with optimized turbine wheels.

I know with the 2006 Mercedes S65, it has 604hp stock, but you can get a tune that'll push it to about 800hp. That's one of the benefits of having turbos, you can tune them to make a lot more power pretty darn easily.

I read this, and I am REALLY interested in this car. I was sold on the M6 GC for a while but after sitting and driving the new 750 in person I was really impressed. The 760 is heaven especially having Xdrive to actually put down that power. With coding this car could be a beast!
