Looking at an 00 740iL Sport or a 98 Dinan 740iL for a grand.

Found a nice looking 740 about 3 hours from me. It does not run, may be guides. As you can see in the pictures I attached, it looks nice, nice black interior and the guy says everything works. Has navigation also. Listed as a Sport, looks like it has the right light assemblies and rims, but Im not an expert on that stuff. If everything is in great shape other than a possible engine, does that sound like a decent deal? I think the sport parts and black interior are desirable and could recoup my money or more if parted out, which Id hate to do. I was actually looking for a parts car to redo my late dads 97 740i, but it needs so much work and m0ney to do. Found this while looking and other than the longer rear doors, it would be an excellent parts car to get what I need, body and interior stuff. Im thinking of repairing the engine in the 00 and driving it for a while, until I can afford to restore my dads car.

Also have a line on a 98 740il with a Dinan S2 package on it according to the seller. It supposedly needs a output speed sensor in the trans, trans only goes in reverse. Its green with tan interior, front bumper is messed up though. He said the Dinan package has LSD, suspension, intake, trans software, and throttle body. Also wants a grand for it.

I'm selling my 98' Bmw 740il Dinan 7 with a dinan package 2. Still a good car but needs work. Everytime I put it in drive, it goes into "fail safe mode". It goes into reverse fine. But it's not able to start up right now because we drained the transmission fluid out to change the output speed sensor but never got around to do it. So it needs transmission fluid also. Silver car looks like a plain-Jane iL with M-Pars. Definitely not a sport. BMWVIN.com will confirm it.

If the Dinan really has all those things, it's a Stage 4 or 5. The LSD is quite rare if it really has it. I think the Dinan LSD is a 3.64 or something crazy. Anyway if it has all those parts, it's quite a find and would be my pick for the rarity and novelty of all those Dinan parts. The transmission problem could very well be worse than just a sensor, but still worth it if you have transfer the Dinan parts to another car or sell them.

The facelift with bad guides is not a spectacular deal at that price. I think I do see chrome on the bumper in the pics, and there was no Sport package for the iL in 2000.

I wish I could get both, lol. Swap the Dinan stuff to the 00. Wonder if he would trade a 97 Jag Vanden Plas for it? Id have 3 e38s then.

The thing about the DINAN 7 is the year. A 1998 is pre-vanos, so none of the engine stuff will work in anything from 3/99 and up. Other stuff like the suspension and LSD would be transferable to any other E38. For a grand or less and harvest it.

Checked it out, it is in poor shape. Guy never showed up so didnt look under hood. Guy had texted ssying it had custom turn down exhaust, lol. All it was was the pipes cut off close to where the differential is. Nothing custom about thst. Diff lioks iriginal, hard to tell if it actually has lsd without dtiving it or having bith rear wheels iff the ground. Interior is worn, not bad but not like he described. Bumper in front is nonusable but knew that before. Wires hanging down from under engine, trans fluid and probably coolant running from under car. Minir dents in trunk, trunk is tweeked, obe lowrr corner sticks out from body. Tail lights decent but getting dry rotted. Tires useable to get towed home, but not much better. Paint dull. It is lowered and looks level so I can probably believe it does have the suspension, couldnt see the struts ir sho ks to see what they are. In the engine puc it does have the Dinan cold air installed. Door panel on rear drivers side is warping from the sun. Id offer 600 maybe but he said he was stuck at a grand. No rust, straight other than trunklid cirner and nirmal dings but without proof of all the Dinan stuff its not worth much to me. Did a carfax look up, free version, shows it has over 200k by now. Failed GA emissions multiple times in the past but is registeted in TN, its in Chattanooga. Kind of weird. I thought thete was inky smig checks around Atlanta. It did have new brakes about 40k ago and looks to have decent oil change intervals. Im going to pass. Going to check out the 00 now.

Crap, wrote a long post and my dang ipad erased it and shut off the wifi by itself. Piece of crap, lol. Anyway the 00 was a bust also, guy lied to me. Interior wasnt perfect like he swore it was, headliner falling down, sunroof had been leaking, panel on dash had puckered up and was held on by 2 self tapper screws, trunk lid dented bad on corner, both bumpers damaged, small to medium dents on other panels. Leather and wood were very nice though. The lies kind of turned me off even with the rest in good shape. Car has navigation but after a couple minutes the screen went blank and would not come back on. When it was on it was light and hard to read. Speakers suck, sounded horrible and I dont thonk the rears were even workong. Guy is a used car dealer selling his own car at the lot. Geuss the used car salesperson menatlity came out on a personal sale. Im giving up, Ill use the money I was going to get a parts car for for my other vehicles. My dads car will have to wait longer. Too many sleazy nontrustworthy poeple out there. I offered him 800 cash but hes stuck at a grand.

Transmission Output Speed Sensor fault always means dead transmission - don't think that changing the sensor will get it going as it won't!
