BMW 525 shocks on a 540?

Hey guys, my e39 540i had a little accident on the front end and I'm looking to replace the suspension strut/shock on the right side. Does anyone know if I can use the shock from a 525 on a 540? Thanks btw I can reuse my old spring/coil

No, as they're different specifications. Get the right suspension for your car.

^Agree with Dennis. Your 540i is heavier than a 525i. Use the correct one.

Ok thanks! Do you know If they are specific for "left or right" or does it not matter? As I ordered the shock and it says it's for "both" sides??

They are the same on both sides....just replaced mine on a 1997 540i. Also, new spring pads are your friends.
