ok so this is my first post so dont flame me too bad. lol ive scoured the internet for info on specific magnaflow mufflers. Im doing a custom set up, and ive even searched here. There is no info on part numbers on which mufflers work, so I figured Id ask everyones opinion. right now I have everything stock back to a magnaflow 11378 muffler. the thing is WAY to loud to daily cruise. it sounds great at idle and WOT, but daily driving the drone is seriously too obnoxious. it sounds like a child screaming into a tin can filled with hornets (a Honda). which is exactly what I didn't want. lol deep with a little rasp and minimal or no drone at all is what im going for. what custom set ups do you guys suggest, I want to stick with magnaflow, so part numbers would help. I don't see the use in spending most of a tax check for something that doesn't even replace my full exhaust. lol thanks

plus idk if I should remove the cats or switch to single pipe. whats the pros and cons of a single pipe vs a duel? I just wanna be able to have a conversation in the car and not have to yell over the drone. ahahah

If you don't want drone stick with Dual pipes all the way back, and don't touch the cats or resonators my brother cut out the cats and resonators with the stock muffler and it honestly sounded terrible. If you do get a universal muffler you will have to do work to get it to sit correctly and there will be welding involved. If you want cheap but good sound there is a bolt on E36 Muffler on ebay that a couple of people bought and said was not too bad. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1992-1998-BMW-E36-325i-328i-M3-Catback-Exhaust-/201502204572?hash=item2eea77a29c:m:mTr2ZljC6U7EbEE xCUsrkbw&vxp=mtr

X 2 on everything D36 said. I left the cats and resonators in place on my 328 and got a Manzo exhaust from eBay. Not the kit he linked to, but pretty much the same thing. I thought for sure that I would be getting the resonators cut out once I heard it on my car, but I'm definitely happy with it as is. E36 crowd has a lot of drifters these days, and those guys like their shit loud, so it's hard to listen to different youtube clips of exhaust notes to find what you like since sound is a hard thing to get right over the internet.
If I was on a "making it rain every time I stepped into the club" budget, I would have gone with Borla, but in hind sight, I think that might have been a little louder than what I wanted. I considered Magnaflow, but wound up taking a gamble on a cheap system to see where it landed me. Purists probably turn their nose to it, but I like it. It's not obnoxious loud, but I was surprised at how loud it actually is. It's enough to trip car alarms in the parking garage if I rev it past 2K, but if you drive tamely, you can still hold a conversation without raising your voice.

thanks for the advice guys, ive had loads of other cars, mainly muscle but Ive always wanted an e36, now that I got one its hard to find the exhaust note I want without buying something that's $700 or more especially since exhaust does little to nothing in the horse power department. youd think manufacturers would realize e36 owners know that and lower their prices. ive loved magnaflow but I was a little weary on going with a cheap rep exhaust but I might take a gamble. are the aa rep ones similar in sound? that magnaflow I have now drones so loud it rattles my interior with harmonics. its unbearable. volume of the exhaust I can handle but when its loud and drones endlessly somethings gotta change. lol also what was the fitment like on the manzo and the linked ebay exhaust?
