I have probably the cheapest 97 318i offered to the public. I can't really find information on it specifically. For instance if I want a diagram of the under hood fuse box, the search has to include at least the ti or in my case the 328i fuse box. Anyway, here is a picture of mine, somewhere. My under hood box does not have an O2 heater relay, a high beam relay ( I do have high beams ) nor an ABS relay ( even though I have an ABS switch on the center console ). I can't even get a specific Bently manual for the 318i and my cheap Haynes manual shows relays in all the spots!
I bring this up because I am having radiator fan problems. The main problem is the cigar shaped, metal piece that the wires to the fan go through. I get power through the blue wire and high speed for cooling. Nothing through the black looking wire. I can put power to the blue and it spins high, brown is ground. The black is open because inside the cigar shaped piece the thermal fuse was broken off on one end and part of the wire from what looks like a resistor came out when trying to find where the wire was broken. So there is no power going through from what ever A/C source feeds this part. It seems that there are upgraded fans offered but no idea if they will work on my car. Plus they are expensive, which I understand and am willing to spend the money if it is a last resort. If I turn the A/C on, I don't get any fan, high or low. It does work from the radiator sensor. I think A/C condensers need a fan blowing air through it while it is in operation, high or low. I don't really want to add a cabin switch to it because it then relies on me to always think about it.
Help?
Thanks Russ
